Making Progress

Blake is making a lot of progress. The two big events from yesterday are:

He started drinking out of a bottle. He has a tiny tube that runs down his mouth and into his tummy, and they hook a syringe full of food to that. This way it just drains into his stomach and he doesn't have to work to eat. However, they said that yesterday he was sucking well enough to try a bottle. It took him a few minutes to figure out what to do with it, but he drank all of his food. He is currently bottle feeding 2 times a day, the rest are through the little tube in his mouth. As he gets stronger, they will increase the bottle feedings and decrease the other.

One of the milestones he has to reach before going home is consistently eating out of a bottle 8 times per day. It will be a while before he gets there, but he is doing great.

The other big event for Blake yesterday was:
He got into a big boy bed (at least that's what we call it)! He is out of the little warmer and into a regular little crib. They are monitoring temperature to make sure he stays warm, and if he doesn't, they will put him back into the incubator-looking bed for a while. This morning they said he was getting a little cool, so we are going to put some warmer clothes on him and more blankets and see if that helps. We hope he can stay in this bed, but we'll see.

They put a little shirt on him yesterday, which was white. When I went down this morning, I was pleased to see it had been switched to BYU blue. If you look closely, you can see it on his little arm in the picture above.

That is awesome he's already at two bottle feedings a day!! It took my slow pokes a few days of not even eating one whole bottle before they got their buns in gear. That is so great! I hope everything continues to go well...you are in our prayers.
